Confessions of a 20-year-old exjournalist who talks too much, laughs too loudly and is eccentric too much for her own good. She is currently reading Law at the University of Warwick, but still spends all her time spilling too many secrets on her blog. Whether they are true, exaggerated or fictitious, its up to you to decide. It could ALL be a pack of lies. Or not. The real girl (and secrets) shall remain elusive. Whatever it is, don't forget to bring along your pinch of salt.
Samanthaeng.blogspot was set up on 31st December 2007 in an attempt to move away from the air-headed musings of the writer's earlier journal. It started out as pretty pink journal like this one- which the writer quickly got bored of- went on to become a dull grey journal, and is now back to looking girlishly pink.
As you can see, the writer is highly fickle, volatile and undecisive. Which makes a lot of sense, since the original purpose of this journal (to spread the writer's ingenious musings to the world at large) has been squashed and replaced by a day-by-day account of a struggling student trying to become the next Legally Blonde 3. Whoever said self-centeredness wasn't a sexy trait?

my first week
It's been such a whirlwind week that I don't know where to begin. I'm currently typing this at 230am on a Saturday night/morning. I'm feeling nice and comfortable, decked out in my tk dance shirt and bright pink fbts, with my feet tugged in snugly under my legs (normally mum doesn't allow me to sit this way at home). So comfortable, I've a rather bad feeling I will only complete half the post tonight. My eyes are drooping close already.
haha but anyway, sorry for the long lack of update. As I've mentioned, it's been a crazy week. There are parties every night. Plus there's wenjie and nicholas who always end up keeping me up till late hours (we spend them talking a whole lot of nonsense or doing/watching card tricks in either wf7 or wf8), so everytime I get back to my room proper, it's shut-eye time and blogging becomes out of question. But they left my room early tonight, just past midnight (after terrorising my friends online) so I quickly bathed and jumped out of the bathroom just to blog this post for all of you :D It's gonna be a long post so read it slowly, savour it and enjoy. I don't know when the next one's coming. But hopefully soon, since school starts on monday and there won't be any more parties, right? Hahaha. Oh crap. My eyes are really drooping. I'd have to continue this tomorrow. Sorry and goodnight. - Hey guys I'm back to blogging! It's 1041pm, and I'm in my room (yes, not partying and not hanging out with the two boys talking nonsense) and although I really want some shut-eye, the union party's music is so loud I can't exactly sleep. Funny how this is the first night I've realised that. haha, goodness. Anyway, I just got back from wenjie's house (wf8) and the house atmosphere there was really good. Everyone just came together to cook dinner, eat, then sat together to drink, talk and listen to music. Which is really warm and fuzzy and I wished my house was like that. Haha wf7 is a pretty much reserved house. Everyone does their own thing, closes their door, pack their food in the kitchen individually etc etc. Dang. I want warm and fuzzy! International orientaion ended already, and it's been pretty great so far. Visited plenty of places, went to plenlty of parties and dancing, made friends, ate horrible catered food (they're trying to prove to us that self-catered is good, maybe). The weather's pretty cold though. I wonder how I'm gonna survive winter. Haha. For some reason, I'm feeling terribly Asian here. The same syndrome both celine and kat blogged about I suppose. It's like how you can be the most outspoken one back home, the one always in the centre of attention, the supposedly "wild" bunch, but over here, you're just immediately shyer, quieter and more reserved than your white counterparts. I'm still getting used to it, and getting used to the fact that things are so liberal over here. Did you know they gave us a condom and lubricant in our Freshers' bag? Talk about being prepared! haha if you compare this with Singapore, this sounds pitchable for gen y/ youthink. Oh well. Oh this is gonna sound really shocking and everything, but someone died today. Just next door. I was at Tesco's with wj and michelle when keegan messaged me saying that my house (wf7) and wf6 was cordoned off and the police were all around. When I got back, housemates said they saw an ambulance and a mortuary van. Which was really freaky, and our resident tutor confirmed that a student died on his first night here. How do I feel about that? I don't know. It's pretty scary that it has hit so close to home (literally). I guess it really is very different over here. Anyway, I shall do a quick day by day update to make up for the lack of blog posts from me. Take your time to read it :D Don't skim! Because my blog posts are slowly turning into a scarce resource now. Haha. Day One was spent just settling in, attempting to set up my internet connection and not grimace at the sight of my small and not very pretty room (but it's nice and lovely now! more on that later!) Random shot taken by the stairs outside the Rootes Social Building This is the sort of food we get served during this orientaion week (before it becomes self catering). It's an ENORMOUS portion but it tastes really terrible so I end up wasting a lot of food all the time. Thank you pengkun for eating up my food for me! (: ![]() Day Two was spent in campus again, this time I went to Warwick Sports Centre to play basketball and badminton with valarie, pengkun, sarah and keegan! haha it was great fun. I like shooting baskets :D And I can serve badminton properly now. And scoop up the shuttlecock with my racket! Grin. And after playing sports, we decided to indulge ourselves at Bar Fusion, this place that sells Asian inspired food at the Rootes Social Building. Random shot of us at the bar THE FOOD! haha it didnt taste fantastic though but the red cut chilli and the chilli sauce I threw in were deliciously hot! I like! (: ![]() After lunch it was just more unpacking, followed by some music dance thing at night! haha was stuck with wenjie and nic who were for some reason (probably alcohol heh heh) rather high and enthusiastic to follow the steps and echoes. They started playing clubbish music (haha the international songs sound so darn foreign though. hard to dance to!) at the marquee after that so we danced and (they) drank. Hello I'm proud to annouce that I haven't drunk.. YET :D Haha five golden rules! After the party, we went to wf8 and nic showed me tons and tons of card tricks. Apparently I'm very gullible! haha somebody please teach me so I won't be so easily fooled please :D Day Three started of bright and early (which was a torture cos i slept after 3am the night before) as we headed down to Oxford to visit! Haha here are some pretty pictures :D Quaint little shops (say it with a british accent) If I'm not wrong this is Christ Church. But I may be wrong, I was too busy camwhoring to listen. ![]() Camwhoring More camwhoring![]() and more camwhoring! ![]() After all the sightseeing, we went SHOPPING. omg, shopping paradise at high street!
Okay. I need sleep AGAIN. I can't believe I'm taking 3 nights (or more) to do this one post. But I'm really tired. Continue again tomorrow. Vanessa said: "I want to take a picture with the resident bimbo!" hmphhh. Haha we spent the rest of the night at this party called HEAT. Dancing to mamamia was superbly fun. Singaporeans we should dance moree! I got dragged away from the dance floor to ching's room at merely 11. Where I promptly fell asleep on the his extremely-nuahish floor. Then soon after, Chloe Huilin and Ching himself fell asleep. HAHA ching, I don't know how you're gonna study in that ambience! Haha we went to Chinatown and had CHINESE FOOD. So happy. Except my food wasn't very tasty but nevermind, its chinese food! :D We shopped around and didn't get much stuff, until Wenjie and Nic decided they wanted their Ikea meatballs! Speaking of Ikea, I got a shoe rack and clock to put in my room! Haha I'm really big on decorating my room but I don't have enough things! I currently want a hot pink duvet cover, pretty red cushions to put on my chair, a pink circle rug to put on the floor, glow in the dark stars to paste up and I need plenty of photos and pictures and decorative stuff to paste up on my board as well! This is an appeal! Send me photos people! haha, this is terribly shameless isn't it? But if you want to send me stuff or come crash during the holidays, here's my address!
Oh I gotta speed up because class starts in twenty minutes. Day Six was just spent going grocery shopping in the morning! I've gotten brocolli capsicums and celery and cooked them already (pictures up on next post) and haha I'm starting to turn vegetarian until I figure out how to cook meat. Heh. Day Seven (yesterday) was spent just going for classes and cooking my veggies and my housemates and I sat and drank and talked and listened to music. Was pretty good fun, apart from cutting myself while cutting vegs. I am such a klutz. And finally! Thank you time :D Here's a big thank you for all the presents and sendoffs! First present I got was from theBOY which completely deserves another post because it's a really sweet poem. Haha you'll get the next post dedicated to you (and pictures of my food!) :D Then there was this card, rose thingum (which I taught! hah.) and star from ccm. Thank youuu. The card's so sweet :D
Haha I gotta thank my parents for sending me off (despite repeated threats not to) :D Sorry this is such a horrible crappy and unglam shot but it was timer and I had no choice. Meiyue and Alvin, I'm so so so sorry things were so rushed so we couldn't take pictures or say goodbye properly. But thanks so much for the really cute pink holder and the button plugs! So pretty! I'm gonna miss you guys!

PARTAYYY
Hello! I just got back from the suntimes kampung-themed party at shuli's! It was good fun to see everyone again!
This will be a very snappy post because I've a whole load of packing/ letter-writing/ settling random things/arranging to meet people to be done. Plus I'm intent on enjoying my last night's sleep in Singapore (I love love love love my bed because it has lovely bedsheets and it has my smell and it faces the window so I can talk to my stars). Anyway! Thank you everybody for the well-wishes :D Haha suntimes is like, the most close-knitted family-ish (oh so kampong!) team I've ever come across and I'm glad for it. Thank you each and everyone of you for all the warmth and fuzziness and gossips(!) you have given me for the past ten months. meiyue- my favourite fellow intern! You started out as a table MAID but ended up being a great great friend. So thank you! ![]() haha oh and I forgot to mention that the food today was great and playing charades was hilarious fun. Also, kudos to dawn, mavis, jamie and shuli for their themed costumes! :D See you all next summer! ps. Thank you Alvin for taking the present from tseruey and passing it to me. Appreciate the sacrifice of a few extra minutes of sleep! pps. Thank you Tseruey for the farewell present :D ppps. Sorry this is such a rushed post! Labels: daily doings, outing, photos

almost; but not quite
I'm sorry I haven't been updating. Have been caught in the entire packing process that I didn't find the time to blog. Well actually I did blog, I did the sumsum:D post but sily blogger swallowed it up because of my less-than-fabulous new internet plan. Gah. But don't worry sumsum, I'll try to recreate the post as soon as I can. Maybe tomorrow, when I take a brief respite from all these packing (:
Anyway the past few days haven't been all that fantastic for me. What with mum problems, friendship issues (which I hope have been resolved), getting my extremely badly-timed period yesterday (urgh.) and catching a cold. Plus there's packing. Loads and loads of packing. Honestly, everything's packed in fine and dandy now except there's no space for my ricecooker and hair-dryer. Which is stinky because those are what I term as non-squeezables. It's akin to sticking a football into a bottle. Oh what wouldn't I give for it to be an inflatable ball instead. I never thought I'll say this, but I'm completely and utterly sick of food after this foodie week. Haha so sick that I've taken to skipping meals and feeling nauseous at the sight of food (or maybe its the PMS, I don't know). Okay so maybe this hating-food phase will last me for the next nine months while I enter the land of But just in case I don't, and start missing food cooked by people who can actually cook, I'm posting the foodie week pictures up :D Plus alvin says food makes a blog interesting (newspapers too, which we found out after polling 150 people) so I'll just take a backseat and let the food do the talking :D - Wednesday: At wj's recommendation, I dragged my parents to this Japanese Buffet at Ikoi Japanese Restaurant. According to many food blogs, this is THE place to go for jap buffets. Reservations have to be placed two weeks in advance! ![]() The food was pretty good. Ala-carte buffet, so everything was hot and piping. But I guess the main draw for this place is the raw fish which was really really fresh and tasted fantastic. That said, this place would be a must-go for raw fish lovers but a no-go for those who don't take fish. Dad didn't take fish and only contented himself with the likes of tempura, tofu, chicken and such. Completely not worth the $33++. Thursday- Went all the way to Melben Restaurant in Ang Mo Kio to try the crabs. Heard and read that the crabs here were good, and people actually called at 3pm to make their orders for 7pm. Tried their butter crab (which is supposedly famous) but it wasn't all that fantastic. Not lousy, but not shoutworthy either. It tasted fine, but the crab meat was slightly stuck to the shell which usually means the crab isn't a very fine one. They didn't have Sri Lankan crabs either (only indonesian) which was a rather let-down for us. I think I'll still stick to my LONG BEACH and JUMBO restaurants along my lovely east coast beach :D Friday- Went to Blue Lobster Restaurant along Frankel Avenue to try out the food. To be honest, I've been hearing about Blue Lobster for the longest time but never found the time to try it. Now that there's this HSBC credit card promotion for their Premium Set Lunches, it felt like a waste not to try (even though I should be sampling local fare instead!). Firstly, the ambience was really nice. As good as what everyone says. It may just look like a typical eating place from outside but the inside looks atas alright (: Soup- Seafood Chowder which tasted pretty good and there was a fair bit of chunks in them. Main course- Fish and Chips was rather disappointing because well, it tasted like normal fish and chips! Not one from a place famous for the succint freshness of their seafood. The fries tasted very good though- but honestly, why pay $30 per set here when I can get the same satisfaction from $2 fries at Macdonald's? Dessert- Various icecream thingums which were really lovely and nice and tasty! Plus it came on a chilled glass plate so they didn't melt one bit and tasted heavenly. Like icecream cake. And you can't even put a flavour to it because the taste is so unique and different. Mmmmm. I like (: I know what you're thinking: Eww. I thought the same too and requested for a change. The rest of the family already drank their drinks though. Haha lesson learnt for the day: Being fussy and observant never did hurt anyone :D Okay that's the end of foodie week. Will not be eating anything else spectacular anymore because I'm so sick of it. Haha to end off on a light note though, here's a msn (yes I've taught my parents msn and skype!) conversation with dad on late friday night. It shows how the whole family cowers in fear of mum. Read and enjoy ;) (Background: Mum banned Dad from using the laptop after 12midnight and made him put the laptop in my room. She then went to sleep and Dad sneaked in to take the laptop and brought it to his room to use. Then, mum woke up...) Labels: daily doings, food

happy days
I once read that it takes a whole full year to get over someone who died. That's because you need to live a full year without him- birthdays, anniversaries, christmas- to fully accept the loss.
I suppose the same theory works in reverse too, albeit a much smaller scale. A full week before you leave a place or person, your heart aches. You start missing everything, because this is the last monday night you will sleep in your bed, the last tuesday you will experience (gelare half-price), the last weekend you enjoy with your family etc etc. The last week is the hardest to get by. Meiyue says: "Don't be emo! That's awcw's domain. You're the happy domain." Haha that put a smile on my face for a while. But it didn't explain why my eyes felt a sudden dampness on the train this afternoon when mum asked if I would miss them. I know, it's all so strange. Wasn't I the one raring to go overseas? Of everyone, I'd never have pegged myself as the clingy, homesick type, but here I am, missing everybody and everything so much and so fast. I kind of regret drifting apart slightly from everyone ever since school ended. Because I was so busy with journalism, then so busy with preparations. Did I lose friendships admist the bustle? I hope not. But there's no point crying over split milk. From now, I shall try my best to keep in touch and be a good friend. Email and skype, everyone. Home addresses too, so I can send you letters from abroad. Deal?(: Anyway, I met up with my two favourite nj boys, winston and jafnie, just now. ![]() It was a good meetup. I'm glad to see that despite the irregular and infrequent meetings, we still have the whole chemistry to talk, joke and laugh together. And tease each other about being We had dinner at Aerins at Raffles City. It's the restaurant that's open-ish and next to the fountain? I've often stood on the second level and wondered what will happen if I threw something (normally something disgusting like a wad of tissue) down and it landed on someone's food. Luckily for us, the place we sat at was COVERED. Which means we were safe from other mischievious sam-like kids. Haha food was not bad, the creme brulee was lovely, but the company was still the best part of the night. Thank you guys for the dinner treat :D Jafnie- Thank you for the pretty sunflower! The pretty yellowness cheered me quite a bit out of my predeparture blue-ish state. Haha. Seriously, thanks jaf for everything over the past two and a half years. I remember I first met you while we were OGLS in orientation two. Remember OG5? Remember the bimbo cheer? I think we were the loudest OG. Haha well being fellow ogls went on to being fellow council mates, fellow exco mates, and fellow bimbos in exco. You always had the ability to make me laugh, whether it's massdancing with me in public in kallang on the grass, being my bimbotic half at ACSIB and annoucing to the whole world that I walked into a pond, or taking my camera and snapping pictures of icandy while we "mug" at the airport. haha. thank you jaf for being the sexbim to my captainbo (:
I WILL SEE YOU TWO THIS THURSDAY. OR MONDAY. OR NEXT SUMMER. STAY HAPPY! (ps. no pun intended for the title of this post) - Family-wise, I spent the morning/afternoon with them on our own mini-food trail. Well, we were suppose to go hawker centre hopping and eat a whole load of famous and good food (since I missed going to the warwick senior organised makaaaaaan today). In the end this was what we had: Very good yongtaufoo at Tanjong Pagar Hawker Centre Another very famous (but to me, only okayish) lor mee at Tanjong Pagar Hawker Centre Crayfish and Prawn Ipoh Hor Fun (extremely long queue) at Hong Lim Hawker Centre Traditional Prawn Mee at Hong Lim Hawker Centre Haha the major food trail sort of failed because intead of stuffing ourselves silly, we three only shared these four bowls of food over two meals! But it was still good nonetheless. Got distracted by starbucks and shopping, which resulted in most of the hawker stalls in Golden Shoe Hawker Centre closed before we reached there. But nevermind, I got myself a pretty (and very expensive! urgh) hairband and a new bag for school in the process (: Oh and did I mention? Had Katong Laksa for lunch yesterday :D Labels: food, outing, photos, thank-yous

land of red and white
It's eight days to harrypotterland and the meetups and foodie outings are still going strong. In fact, so strong that I'm going to KO from all the food, food and more food! Don't believe me? Read on and you will know how awesomely much I've eaten on this self-initiated pre-harrypotterland food trail!
Went on a sudden impromptu lunch trip to the mounbatten/old airport road hawker centre on Thursday. It was so great because practically every stall was "famous" and had a entire barrage of newspaper clippings and culinary certificates on their stall front. Oh, choices choices, how to choose! We had what amounted to a hawker centre buffet- which only costed $9.60! Don't you love Singapore and it's hawker centres? (: First we had this supposedly famous Blanco Court Kway Chap. Haha because we are super lousy kwaychap eaters, we only took taupok, egg (which mum doesnt eat) and taugua (which I dont eat). That amounted to two dishes per person. Haha we only spent $3.60 for this! But it didnt taste very good so we didnt finish it :( Don't waste the stomach space you know! ![]() After the unsatisfying kwaychap, we decided to try the famous hokkien mee there. It was brilliant! Haha not the horribly dry sort, but those that come with some gravy so it's nice and wet. And it's reasonably priced at $3! But it would have been much better if they used chor bee hoon instead of the normal-size beehoon. Because in case you guys don't know, Sam hates beehoon! So that kind of spoilt the meal for me. But mum liked it :D Finally, we decided to be greedy and try the very delicious-looking prawn noodles as well. Sadly though, looks are really deceiving because it wasn't all that shoutworthy. Only the prawns were good, the soup so-so and the kwayteow was so thick and course that it tasted bland. Couldn't finish this either. Dinner on Thursday was spent pigging out yet AGAIN. Haha this time it was to my all-time favourite italian restaurant. It's the place we always go to to celebrate my successes (usually after good results). This time, it was belated celebration for passing driving. Presenting to you, Al Forno's! The colours I will miss... Our sausage and mushroom pasta... Anyway, in case you think we simply without feeling in the least bit guilty, we walked from east coast road, to Marine Parade, to ECP, to Upper East Coast Road, to Bedok (home). It took slightly more than two hours and we were dead beat by the end. Apart from me jumping around gleefully at the thought of saving the oh, eighty cents bus fare. haha, cheapo! I know! Yesterday was spent with my favourite 2E5 TK girls. Haha Jiahui, Marie, Clara and me. THe foursome that sat together and did the silliest things. It was fantastic meeting up with you guys again! Jiahui, me and Marie met up first because Clara was LATE! haha we spent the waiting time (from 630-9pm!) at the really quiet TCC along beach road. Nice ambience! Plus nice conversations. haha I still remember one of the last conversations the three of us had in Secondary four at the fishball noodle coffeeshop was about which of us will get a boyfriend in JC first. Despite my many protests, the two silly girls thought I would. HAHA. I proved them wrong during last night's conversation then! (although they insist they're still right because I dont "officialize" things! hohum. okay, whatever!) Now now, stop insisting I'll get married first! (Besides, high maintainence people aren't very marriagable. It's a fact!) haha Clara came soon after and we had nice yummy steamboat buffet! We started reminiscing about good ole 2E5 days. Oh remember how we used to shoot rubber bands at Tommy Tan's butt? How we got into trouble with the DM/VP/P every other day? How we threw paper balls of notes across the classroom each time the teachers' back was turned? How we stood up and held flags of the worldcup team we support in class when the teacher isn't looking? And of course, do you remember how the "old hag" used to scold me and me only, along the lines of scolding me for talking (when I'm talking), and scolding me for influencing teacher'spetclara when SHE's talking? haha those were the times! our favourite shot because it's blur and you can't see any flaws :D Ji Hu, MariegohFISH and clarathePANDA- I miss the great times we had. Let's keep in touch and meet up again next summer alright? LOVE! all of us :D :D And finally! Today was spent shopping the entire day at Orchard with my family! Got a new Mango cardigan (which is thick and big and how to pack!), purple leggings:D and a hat! Haha I'm gearing up happily for autumn wear. And I really want a pretty checkered skirt for autumn since months ago! Still can't find it even though zara today brought out this whole new range of checkered stuff- dress, tops, leggings, scarves, shoes, socks, dresses etc. Everything except a nice checkered skirt :( This was the closest to a checkered skirt. It's actually a dress (turtleneck top connected to a checkered skirt) Was tempted to buy, but turtlenecks are simply too itchy and uncomfortable!

eleven and counting
And so, the last meet-ups and foodie outings have begun.
It's 11 days to harrypotterland, time has never seemed to past so quickly. Singaporean food has never tasted so good and there's always too many meetups and too little time. For the next one and a half weeks, it's gonna jampacked with outings and loads and loads of food. So be prepared for the onslaught of pictures, and don't read this blog when you're hungry, won't you? Met up with ccm on Tuesday afternoon on the pretext of getting a webcam for my instructor (but really, didn't we enjoy pigging out at the basement of bugis more?). First we had donuts! (relax, we didnt eat them all. only two. and yes i've realised that i can get donuts in the uk so let's not dwell on this further)
Then we had takopachi balls which is my absolute all time favourite. Oh how am I going to survive in harrypotterland without them, I don't know!
Then came the meetup with my favourite 4E1 TK girls :D Haha Aneesa and Disha you guys cracked me up so so so much. I'm really gonna miss laughing non-stop with you guys. We have the best conversations don't we? Like this one: "Eh, someone call the bill" "The bill! The bill!" -Pretends to phone someone- "Eh what? Call the bill la!" "Aneesa, you call for it" "Huh? Who's fored??" hahahah. Me and Disha nearly died laughing at that one. And a million other jokes throughout the night, really. Thank you girls for always being able to put a huge smile on my face (:
Yesterday was spent meeting up with my dear Tseruey! haha it's been forever since I've met that girl so that was quite a lot of catching up to do ;) We ate at this authentic korean restaurant called Jang Shou BBQ at Esplanade. Haha the food tasted truly authentic (we should know since both of us have been to Korea recently) and the service was excellent! Super thumbs up! First up was all the FREE and REFILLABLE (very important gleaming big words here) side dishes. The dishes range from different types of kimchi (which tasted exactly like the real thing in korea) to macaroni, spinah and garden salad. They all tasted really good, but the best was the chilli (omg it's fantastic!) and the sesame oil with little seasoning in it. We ordered two portions of different type of pork. Basically it barbequed like this: Then you wrap the meat in lettuce like this (alongside any of the side dishes, rice or chilli) and stuff it whole into your mouth! haha for some reason I think we amused the manager and the staff of the restaurant quite a bit. I think it all started when I tried to read the menu out loud in my pseudo thai-vietnam accent. Then announcing very loudly to Tseruey that I'm actually one-third thai and one-third vietnamese. (mathematically, you can't be one-third something) THEN, the manager walked up to me and said: "Hi, you speak Vietnamese! Let me bring one of my vietnamese staff over to converse with you!" At this point I spluttered, turned pink, and mumbled shamefacedly that actually, I can't speak Vietnamese, while Tseruey laughed and laughed and laughed. Oh, some friend! Well everything went downhill (in the embarassing way) from there. The manager came and gave us two cups/little bowls of this at the end of the meal: Both of us stared at it puzzledly, wondering if it was something to eat or wash our hands. Until the manager came back and said: "We're giving you this dessert for free. Enjoy!" Dessert right? So out came out our spoons as we dug into the "dessert". The manager came back again and said: "By the way, it's plum juice." At this point in time, I looked at Tseruey and whispered to her asking if that was a hint to say we don't use spoons to consume the "dessert". But we didn't really know, so we continued tucking in with our spoons. Then the manager came back and said: "Actually, you're not supposed to drink it with a spoon" Cue hot embarrased blushes as we hurriedly put our spoons away and drank straight from the cup. Then I decided to dare Tseruey to ask for straws. And guess what the manager gave us! Two perfectly cut straws (to fit our small cup) :D
Anyway, after our highly amusing lunch, we went around in our shades and pretending to be tourists! (an excuse to camwhore, but nevermind)
"I am drinking the water the merlion spits!" Then we headed to the Fullerton Hotel to erm, admire their toilet mirrors ;)
At the fullerton fountain!
Acting tourisy :D
HAHAHA see I told you I was one-third vietnamese!
my lovely friends ;)
Heh. Tseruey says I look like I'm in love with the statue ;)
Oh and I had another foodie outing for dinner with my family yesterday as well. I got the place from a food blog. Its YET CON at purvis street. The steamboat tastes exactly like the one at golden mile except the meat is thicker, the fish slices are thicker and the prawns are bigger. Same chicken rice quality too. And get this, per set at Golden Mile costs 11 bucks while each set at Yet Con only costs 8 bucks! It's fantastic value for money and the soup is really really good. I'll be back next summer for sure :D Okay the end of part one of meetups and foodie outings. Will update about today's and tomorrow's tomorrow night. Goodnight world.

sun, sea and warwickians :D
Unlike yonglong's (read: wanderer) pre-departure post which only features atas shots of agriculture, scenery and goodness-knows-what, mine shall only have people, people and more people. Beautiful warwick people at that. Really yonglong, why take the scenery when you have all these?
haha presenting to you the warwick freshers 2008 :D (ok we took this shot at the end of the day at vivocity so not everyone is featured! but it's a nice shot. we look blue-and-white don't we?) ![]() We spent the day having our Warwick pre-departure event at Sentosa. It was really quite a blast, so kudos to the seniors for such great planning :D Had a lot of fun playing all the silly funny games and of course, the bbq! But before I go into great grandma-story detail of the day, here's something very amusing. Guess who are the people who had to plonk globs of sunblock on their faces before we set out? CHING! *coughcoughcough* and WENJIE! (hello i am too lazy to add the speech bubble that says "omigosh, i totally need my sunblock!")![]() Boys! It's disgraceful you know! hahaha. Anyway, we split into our various groups to go around playing games. My group is extremely funky and cool because we kept winning! (despite claims to try our best to lose.) haha presenting to you, the WINNERS! (that's our group name): From this shot you see that only steph and YL have major camera radars. The rest of us are happily distracted while they post for the camera. Tsk, is this a TJC trait? Jerrick decided he was too tall and went to stand behind. HAHA. anyway we played some "how well do you know each other" trivia game, charades and dog&bone which we won! haha the first game was a sure-win because there's me keegan and yl on our team. We are the warwick information search engines ;) No information can escape our clutches! Victory jump with more people! haha anyway we lost ou winning streak when it came to this find your slipper while blindfolded with a shower cap game! But hey, we succeeded in losing finally! Well done, winners :D Then came the extremely horrible big finale game that went like this: You hold an egg in your hand, place your hands in an elephant truck position, and turn 15 rounds while looking on the floor. Then you have to run across the beach to pass the egg to your teammate. Haha I swear, it's the hardest game I've ever done. I fell down twice! In fact, everyone on our team fell down. Not because we're lousy though, yaoen was right. OUR EGG IS CURSED. It can't be us. We're winners after all ;) Had the BBQ after the games. Haha I've concluded that I am a lousy flames-fanner. When I grow up, I shall invent a special BBQ fanner to spare people from all the trouble and make big bucks! The BBQ! (Wayne's cooking the food, ha ha) heh heh :D

what a miniskirt can do
Hoho. Today I proved the wonders of long hair, a bright smile and a miniskirt. Honestly, I love being a girl sometimes.
Oh yes, I passed driving :D (yes kelvingoh, I shamefacedly admit that I used a skirt to pass and did not follow your wear-jeans rule. but hey, whatever works right :D ) Apparently my tester is an extremely lecher-ish and biased-towards-girls sort of tester. When I messaged my instructor his name, the sms reply was: "GOOD TESTER. FOR LADIES." I shall admit that the minute I read that message, my hair, which was pulled back in a ponytail, was promptly let down and patted nicely into place. HAH. The test was quite interesting. I was the last to leave and first to return! I think I drove better the previous time. Ha ha, but the tester just kept calling me "xiaomei" and telling me to drive faster (extremely surprising!) and not to give way (!!) and not to be so careful because it's silly to keep checking blindspots. We also chatted about UK, Warwick and Law. He didn't check any boxes at all during the test so I had zero idea where I stood. Anyway he passed me in the end! I was so happy I could have hugged him (but obviously refrained because he is a lecher after all). Hah. Went down to the private instructor's area and everyone of them (goodness knows how they know me!) started saying things along the lines of: "You passed right? I knew you would!" "Your tester likes girls one!" "Everytime girl he will treat them nicely and pass them if they don't do any major mistakes. "For guys, he has never passed anyone before!" "If he gets a guy later you'd better lend the boy your skirt." Thank god I was born a girl. Anyway my instructor is extremely happy for me too! I promised to buy him a webcam (with speaker). Any suggestions where to get it from? (: Oh and I bought my lovely orange triangle plates the minute I finished registering for a license and drove my granddad's mini-van all the way to a factory opening near tuas! Then I drove my uncle's auto BMW back to the east. Haha it's exhiliarating :D Spent the night cooking at grandma's. I cooked a stirfry veggie, something-related-to-mang-guang melon with vermecilli and mushroom, and meat with potatoes! Haha mum says the meat and potatoes are the best meat and potatoes she has ever tasted in her life, no kidding :D I'm so amazed my beginnger's luck is holding! (because really, I'm not supposed to be at all domestic. I failed home econs remember?) Oh teehee. Went to tidenglong (carry lanterns, in chloespeak) with my cousins at the playground. haha it sure brings back memories man. How I used to love playing with fire, sticking candles onto al lthe pavement sides and getting chased by the guard. Then I saw a five-year-old girl expertly scaling the same pole I used to scale with ease. Damn it, I want to be young again. So carefree. Labels: daily doings, food, musings

hanern :D
Once again, this post is a little late because I've been running around settling silly little things and psyching myself up for driving (oh yes, more on this on the next post). BUT, as usual, better late than never :D
Presenting to you, my fellow glam twin chang aka yaphanern aka samuel chang aka beloved mass dance partner and fellow house captain :D ![]() So my dear twin left for faraway harrypotterland (fyi: I've taken to calling UK harrypotterland in all my blogposts) on the 4th of september. He is now happily in Royston (or Luton according to my statcounter. i don't know whether to trust the himbo or the computer. what say you?). ha ha. Anyway! I remember the first time we met. It was at the amphitheatre and kelvin made the comm choose our mass dance partners. By some twinly divination, we chose each other. Then we started dancing in front. Then the music went wonky. Then you started singing upside down for us to dance to. At that point I figured I was in for a hellava ride (: And it was. From mass dance partners, to irritating every Orientation 2 student with our silly antics on stage while dancing, to bimbotic comments, to spelling everything with the silent "whwhwhwhw", to bitching sessions, to practising massdance in the middle of the night in the council room, to eating and holding wine glasses glamly, to silly jokes like Twisties, to introducing you as samuel to all my sph people and forgetting the fact, to nightly "loser-ish" conversations, to no longer being losers, to GLAM TWINS. hahaha crap, listing all that out has made me start missing you already! but really, it's ALL YOUR FAULT CHANG. For choosing edinburgh over warwick. haha now now, what's gonna happen to CECG (Chang and Eng Centre of Glamorosity)? Oh wait actually you know what? It's better this way. We get to spread our influence farr and wide. CECG will be famous across the entire UK :D Oh oh we are such glamtelligent beings, I swear. (anyway, because I can't find a picture of us expect a prom which we both look unglam in, i'm posting a house capts photo! :D)
thank you for completing my sentences, always (: yours in glamness, eng. Labels: farewells

a little spontaneity
I've learnt one thing today: last minute impromptu meetups never do turn out as planned. haha. The original plan was to go blading at night, but the silly rain had to go spoil it all. So we decided hey, let's go catch a movie (Wall-E) instead.
Bad bad idea. Never decide to go for a movie at the last minute, and then drive through the pouring rain (without knowing directions) all the way from the east to town to catch a movie. Because this is what's gonna happen: 1) You take about an hour to find your way there because you don't know the way and it is raining. 2) The first place you go to (Cine) will have sold-out tickets 3) You drive to another cinema (PS) only to realise that there are only FRONT seat tickets 4) You end up not watching the movie and cursing yourself for travelling all the way for nothing 5) You turn to food for solace, effectively changing your healthy night (blading) to a piggish one. - But okay, let's face it. Number 5 isn't that bad a consequence after all. I mean, look at the food we had! :D happy! box from Taiwan Shi-ling snacks. haha my first time trying from this shop. it was a very sneezing-ish meal. BEN&JERRY'S ice cream :D Newyorksuperfudge, cherrygracia and cookiedough, topped with whipped cream, caramel sauce and mini MnMs. Culinary orgasm, anyone? haha. I guess even if impromptu outings never do turn out as planned, they can be very fun still :D oh. I got my two shots today on my left arm. It hurts slightly and aches too. Hopefully the feeling will leave before I start changing gears. Goodnight (: Labels: daily doings, food, outing

happyhyperhighness
I've just spent the night playing brainless silly but ever-so-fun online games like scrabble, reversi, rock paper scissors, 3D tic tac toe, poker etc. haha msn games are actually quite fun. lovely
all these mindless games are putting me in a good good mood :D But you know what put me in an even better mood? I got a driving test date! Haha thank you thank you thank you ccm, whenjee and my instructor for doggedly checking the cdc website with me :D Despite being logged out repeatedly because too many cooks do spoil the broth, we got the date in the end! Thank you guys! Much appreciated :D Just thought it's a quirky fact to mention that my new date and time- september 6th in case you wanna wish me luck heh- was the first original date I was given (without knowing I was going overseas at that time). And now I've gotten the same first date again... maybe it's fated for me to pass on this date. Oh I sure hope so! Wish me luck won't you? Anyway, I met up with my dear Chloeeee today! We went shopping at Vivo after I got my laptop serviced. Haha I was so utterly and completely lost today trying to locate places that I took a gazillion buses and trains! But I managed to get to vivo and meet chloe in one piece, so I do have a modicum of sense of direction after all! Went shopping and I got a pair of 37 degrees slippers, three pairs of leggings and 3 vacuum bags! Whoosh. I'm left with socks and stationery and I am done with UK shopping! (oh right. Unless I decide to get a to-school bag from here. Or decide I need a new pencil case. After all, a hot pink roxy case with polka dots isn't befitting of a serious, stern, nineteen year old LAW student is it?) hur hur. I don't know. I wish I could win lottery! I'm sorry this is such a hyper post. Loads of (: and :D and ! . Goodness. Excuse the writing. But you know, I really can't help it :D Labels: daily doings, outing

day-to-day
Life is a bed of thorns these days.
What with the daily drone of housework, mum's bigger and bigger demands, packing woes and driving test date woes, I'm feeling utterly and completely dead beat. And school hasn't even started yet. three weeks. Every day seems to be spent settling something before leaving. Take yesterday for example, I temple-hopped to five different places to pray before leaving, then went to three different shopping centres to get my top and shoes (covered flats at that! for the silly cold weather). Then we went to eat seafood before I get vaccinated some time this week :D It was back to Thai Village for some damn good crab with vermicilli. (trust me, I've been eating this one for years, no other place does this dish as good as them)
and of course, what Thai Village is famous for, their single shark's fin in a claypot that costs sixty bucks each. Anyway I went down to the driving centre today and cannot get a test date. The online booking isn't coming through for me either. arghh. This is so.. annoying and depressing. On a more frivalous note, it's september the first! Gossip Girl Season 2! Why oh why don't I see it being uploaded anywhere? Labels: daily doings |
