Confessions of a 20-year-old exjournalist who talks too much, laughs too loudly and is eccentric too much for her own good. She is currently reading Law at the University of Warwick, but still spends all her time spilling too many secrets on her blog.

Whether they are true, exaggerated or fictitious, its up to you to decide. It could ALL be a pack of lies. Or not. The real girl (and secrets) shall remain elusive. Whatever it is, don't forget to bring along your pinch of salt.

Samanthaeng.blogspot was set up on 31st December 2007 in an attempt to move away from the air-headed musings of the writer's earlier journal. It started out as pretty pink journal like this one- which the writer quickly got bored of- went on to become a dull grey journal, and is now back to looking girlishly pink.

As you can see, the writer is highly fickle, volatile and undecisive. Which makes a lot of sense, since the original purpose of this journal (to spread the writer's ingenious musings to the world at large) has been squashed and replaced by a day-by-day account of a struggling student trying to become the next Legally Blonde 3.

Whoever said self-centeredness wasn't a sexy trait?

Culture Project

Went to watch the Culture Project last night and it was really good. Fantastic script, fantastic actors, Jerrick and I were kept agog thoughout the whole performance.

That didn't prevent us from camwhoring before the performance started though

Nor after the performance...

The girls :D

The fantastic cast

I'm not too chatty on early Saturday mornings, especially on a morning like this one. So I shall just leave you here. Good morning.

ignis

I'm enjoying a little self-declared holiday, courtesy of last night's four in the morning bedtime. But I enjoyed myself a lot, and I'm having second thoughts about the whole dancing-in-the-uk-isn't-good-enough-and-i-should-quit thing.

S/treetvibe performed at Ignis last night, it's this once-a-term clubbing event held at Tempo. Entry was five pounds, but as performers we got in free, so that was awesome (: The performance actually went very well. We got the crowd grooving, I think we looked good together and the smooth transition from the sexy, slow vibe of the first dance, to the cool Justin Timberlake vibe of the second dance, to finally ending off with a big shocking bang with our last dance was excellent.

I felt the usual after-preformance euphoria after that. Grinning from ear to ear, and then we started enjoying ourselves at the party. And of course, camwhoring had to come into the picture (pun intended).

nicfoo

sara! who's in all the same dances as me (:

sara, me, ralph and kathleen. haha this is a terribly unglam shot because my eyes are closed shut but I like how Ralph's eyes are scarily and freakishly red.

haha againnn

And malikka who was working at the party. thank you babe for shouting my name during the dance haha that felt nice ((:

I wasn't exactly drunk or very high at the party, but I can't believe I did a full backbend (from standing) right smack in the middle of the dancefloor. And pirouettes. Hmmm. It must be the red bull.

And I think that all girls should start wearing sneakers and baggy hiphop pants to clubs instead of your sexy little skirts and heels because even though it is highly unsexy and uncool, you get so much flexibility that way. You can groove all the way down, and yes, you can execute backbends too. Heh.

Halfway through the party, some pipe burst and people had to come and repair it. We think we know who's the horrible culprit *coughcoughniccough* who caused it by sitting on the ledge and drumming his fingers on it. Absolutely hilarious.

Ended in my room cupnoodling and talking nonsense after the party. But it was fun. I stick by my stand that in the wee hours of the morning after a party, tongues tend to loosen and people get chatty. The gossip girl journalist in me is grinning from ear to ear :D

Okay time to study. Crazy keegan and st just crashed my room for the past hour talking absolute rubbish. What is the i to the power of i?

michelle's birthday in pictures

Because property law lecture was surprisingly cancelled this morning (after I've already dragged myself out of bed) and because legal theory readings have too many long words in them, I shall spend my lovely Wednesday morning doing a photo post of my favourite birthday girl's (she was the only birthday girl, heh) celebrations yesterday.

Presenting to you, the abovementioned birthday girl in her er, glammest pose ;)

Her birthday feast, which included dips and dips and more yummy dips (:

Here it would be a good time to mention that while her birthday feast was being prepared by the extremely talented chefs, this silly birthday girl msned me to complain that a) she was hungry, b) where is chloe, c) she is going to start cooking dinner, d) she has already put the rice to cook and e) the salmon's defrosting.

You're hilarious mich, but you know I still loveee youuuu (:

As usual, Chloe got jealous we didn't include her in the photo and demanded one.... Hahaha nah, I'm just kidding. She's not demanding everyday, only every other day (:

PENGKUNNN :D

Er, shot two. Which she said is blurrer and we would definitely look better then. SIGH. Age is catching up with us.

HAHA, I adore this shot. But Jerrick is too tall. It's like an exponential increase in height.

And this is our new after-meal activity: ARM-WRESTLING.

Here I would like to add that I beat both Keegan and Shenting with my amazing arm-wrestling skills (with some help from Lincoln at the side) :D :D

Okay, seminar soon. Have to run. HAPPY TWENTEEN BIRTHDAY MICHELLE!!! :D

familiar scenes, foreign land

I have always loved performing. As a kid, I begged my mum to enrol me in ballet classes, so that I could perform in the recitals I always read in my little storybooks. As the years went on I joined speech and drama, drama club, dance club, cheerleading, debating etc. There's something about being on stage that I loved- and still do.

Dancing became my first love, or maybe I was simply born with the love for dancing. I started ballet classes at the age of three (and went on with them till I was the ripe old age of seventeen). Joined dance as a cca in the schools I have attended. Through these, I could combine both my love for dance and my love for performing. It was a win-win situation.

In Singapore at least, dancing in a team isn't just about yourself. It's about how the entire team looks together and gel together. There must be a certain sort of bond and chemistry between dancers in a team. The same sparks that allow you to smile at each other while onstage, all thoughts of nervousness and anxiety laid down.

Coming to Warwick, I suppose I didn't the expect the exact same standards like back in Singapore. Nevertheless, I joined a dance society, S/treetvibe, with the promises of plently of performances up ahead. Dance practices were fun (we had good external teachers), dance rehearsals not as much (the level of vigour isn't quite the same) and as for performances, well I just had my first one yesterday.

All geared up for the army-theme in Yeehung's army pants (thank you!)

We were supposed to perform for the carnival for One World Week, and before that we had to go on a one-hour parade around the school campus to basically, make a lot of noise and capture attention. The parade was actually quite fun (oh I just love grabbing attention, don't I) but it was freezing in just a hoodie, folded up pants and cloth sneakers.

Me, Ralph and Kathleen before the parade began (I swear the facepaint makes me look liek a cat)

Ralph carrying out banner :D

The long procession of a parade (which I couldn't quite capture because I am too short not tall enough)

I overheard this hilarious comment during the parade, while we were blowing the whistles as loudly as we could.

"My hands are too cold to hold on to my whistle."

"Just hold it in your mouth."

"That's not the first time I've heard THAT one."

After the parade, we headed back to the piazza to wait for our turn to perform. The crowd was humongous and a riot, which was a good thing, until I realised they more or less drowned out any semblance of music coming out from the good-for-nothing speakers. Oh, and I nearly froze to death while waiting for our turn to perform. Was literally numb from head to toe (cloth sneakers!).

The performance was, to use a little euphemism, not quite how anyone would have envisioned. Okay, to put it bluntly, it wasn't good. I shall refrain from elaborating since the world wide web is an intrinsically dangerous place. Even though I knew that I didn't do any mistakes, there were others who did. And the result was a big mess of zero coordination. So what if I knew all my steps right? There's still no sense of pride because dance IS about team effort. It's about the overall presentation as a piece to the audience in the end. One person alone can break the dance, but one person alone cannot make the dance.

Didn't feel the usual euphoric satisfaction after the performance. In fact, I felt blank, bleak, unsatisfied. A friend asked me what did the team say in the debrief, since it turned out like that. To which I replied, debrief? What debrief. This is the UK.

Anyway, I got cheered up by rushing off to a steamboat dinner at Lincoln's/Jerrick's place straight after that. It was a completely yummy, warm and fuzzy dinner.

CNY Goodies! Courtesy of PK :D

Ohmygod ba kwa...

Pictures round the table: Rahul, Amanda, Tracy, Katie (all lawlies!)

Chloe Edwin Ching

Me and michelle (:

Chloe got jealous and demanded a photo with her in it as well. Heh.

I just realised, our two hosts were too busy preparing food in the kitchen they didn't get a "around the table" shot. But nevermind, food glorious food!

STEAMBOAT AND BBQ PLATE (oh yeahhhh)

Stingray!

DUCK! seven pounds from Iceland, I didn't touch it because I am anti-duck except four seasons duck but I'm sure it was well worth the money (:

So dinner was really enjoyable and everything. A lot of law talk and friendly banter, with the most hilarious one being the manliness scale being placed on the guys. Haha, good food, good laughter and good company.

Group shot! The table shook and so did my camera. Which resulted in a hilarious motion-like shot at ching's end :D

Once more! This time, it was perfect (:

We may be far away from home this Chinese New Year, but that doesn't mean we can't find our family away from home, does it?

eggciting niu year

I should be sleeping, really, because it is already 232am on the morning of chinese new year, and I have three dance performances in the next three days to juggle alongside never-ending schoolwork. But blame it on the cny excitement, I feel like I cannot fall asleep. So I shall do a quick photo post on cny eve, and how we ushered in the lunar new year.

Had a little steamboat reunion dinner (as planned with sj and wj a long time ago) at my place. Kano, Mallika and Jerry joined us as well. The soup was awesomely salty and good, but I think only the Asians appreciated it. Haha, are we more salt-loving freaks, you think?

Having a reunion dinner for the first time overseas felt slightly strange. I won't put it down to homesickness really, but just the strange feeling that this isn't what I'm used to. We were rather quiet throughout dinner, and somehow, I am used to the hustle bustle and noise of a reunion dinner. TV blasting in the background, the kids making loads of noise, my grandma who keeps insisting I must eat more, fending a zillion questions about my schoolwork and listening to comments about how fast I grow up... Oh, and the heavenly heavenly abalone as well.

Yes, as you can see, I'm a huge abalone fan. I used to look forward to chinese new year not for the red packets (they go into the bank and are untouchables) but for the abalone. Mmmmm.

So it felt different this year. Well, not different in a bad way. Just different in a... different way.

After the little reunion dinner was done, I headed down to AV for a freshers' baking session to usher in the new year. Egg tarts, cookies and pineapple tarts :D

Michelle and I camwhoring. Mich says, that retarded expression makes one look skinnier. HAHA.

As usual, I did my eggtart queen magic :D

Before baking...

Chloe putting her cookies in

SWOON-WORTHY EGGTARTS (:

The girls got eggcited and started posing with the eggtarts (actually no, it was because the boys were busy playing cards in the dining area. hmph!)

Me and my eggtarts :D :D :D :D

Uh, more people with the eggtarts. Yes yes, we were eggcited.

Because they're so awesome, they deserve another shot.

Then came the random camwhoring. And I really like this shot of the three of us. We look happy(:

Camwhoring with michelle again

And this was jason (my fellow eggtart prince) with a hairband. Pretty boy!

Haha just in case I am accused of being biased (towards eggtarts), here are the pineapple tarts! They are all uniquely shaped, but I would say the most memorable two were Jason's curry puff and Ching's whale. Ching was so cute when he refused to eat his whale (:

And this was everyone :D

Sometime after this picture was taken, it hit midnight and I started a countdown (on my own, I might add, where's the enthusiam people!) which was rushed and hurried so we are out of the kitchen by midnight (three doors down lies the resident tutor). Haha how anti-climatical and cinderellaish. But it was fun (:

Happy Lunar New Year Everyone.

culinary genius

I woke up to a sore throat today, surprisingly. After all, all I had to eat yesterday was pasta for lunch and an insanely healthy soup of carrots, celeries and tomatoes for dinner. Maybe it was the dehydration from going to three dance rehearsals without my bottle of water. Whatever, I hope the sore throat goes away in time before cny dinners and all the dance performances.

Anyway, the point of this blog post was to express my happy surprise at a dish turned out well. To be honest, one of the best (and also worst, if you think about the inconvenience) parts of studying overseas is that you get to step out of your comfort zone and cook for yourself- everyday. And because you cook daily, you often get bored with the normal food and tend to experiment wildly, sometimes successfully and sometimes unsuccessfully.

Today's experiment was, surprisingly successful (:

For me, I'm a true believer of beginner's luck. So there has been mostly hits and few misses in all the cooking experiments (in fact, I didn't cook one bit in Singapore, so every meal is somewhat an experiment to me). Unsurprisingly, my hits are the usual chinese food (oh fried rice, my heavenly fried rice), where I simply try to emulate what I taste at home or at my grandma's place. Western food, I don't fare as well. I mean, how good can a pasta be, when all you do is pour out pasta sauce from a bottle you get from Tesco?

But as it turns out, pasta can taste brilliant if you experiment it well. I made stuffed pasta today, with fried onions and mushrooms and cut-up german sausages. For the sauce, I didn't do the lazy way of just pouring pasta sauce from a bottle. I poured a teeny bit, for the herb and garlic taste, then used cheese and mayo to whip up a mean dish of melted, cheesy and gooey delight.

A heavenly meal of pasta ensued after the cooking, and I can't help but muse about how I would never have thought that I can actually turn on the stove successfully, let alone cook. I was always the pampered only child at home. Mum never let me turned on the stove (lest the house burns down) and we ate out for almost every meal. And if my accidents in the Chemistry lab were any indication, I should never be let near an actual stove in my entire life.

But as life would have it, here I am, cooking everyday. Not exactly michelin-star standard, but good enough I'd say, for the girl who couldn't even turn on the bunsen burner in the lab.

I actually can't wait to cook for my parents and see the expression on their faces.

Happy Reunion Dinner everyone, wherever you are.

gossip girl. house viewing. sainsburys with chloe and michelle. stuffed pasta. hot chocolate. mini mashmallows. crazy shengjun is in warwick again. late-night visit. karaoke party with the accidental friend. silly-looking egg sitting on my study table currently.

Had a good day today. Need to start studying tomorrow (in the midst of three dance rehearsals). I feel like staying in the Sports Centre during the three-hour break. Maybe swim. Is there a place to sit and study there?

Chinese New Year is coming. I wish I were back in Singapore with new clothes and abalone to eat.

blues be gone

Whichever wise guy who said this phrase was right. When you're down, the only way is up. There's a silver lining to everything, and hey, there's sunshine after the rain. Always.

It's been a rather tense week, accumulating to a peak today. But I'm glad everything's more or less settled now. Glad I took the past two days off my work to sort out my thoughts. I'm all geared up and refreshed for a new battle now. It's time to put in my one hundred percent into everything I deem important.

Property lecture was surprisingly cancelled today (again, after last thursday), and another impulsive trip was due. Headed down to Coventry with the excuse of getting costumes from Primark, but in reality, I just needed a breather in the form of noodle bar and starbucks. Haha.

Did silly, crazy things too. Like buying candy from the candy machine (:

And toffeenut never fails to bring a smile to my face (:

Property test results came out today too. In the end, I didn't do as badly as I expected. In fact, I did a lot better than expected (my math must be terrible), and I really love how excel can calculate so many things (: Forget everything I said about never being able to get a first. There is still hope!

Okay as you can see, the happy samantha is back.

feeling the blues

I haven't been here in a while. Blame it on the tonnes of readings and homework that I'm trying to do, to make up for the extremely unproductive weekend. Have been trying my best to keep up, but I'm kind of dead for tomorrow's Legal Theory seminar. There are a million pages to read, I haven't read a single page and the seminar's in the morning.

Blame it on this girl, who came over tonight and we ended up being cheesy and singing to this karaoke thing that tests your pitch.

But I have to admit it was bundles of fun. Look at our high score! Haha, this is a good game for in-room activity with friends when you run out of gossip topics :D

I went for dance today, and this time, I told myself that I should stop being a spoilt, whiny brat and actually make the effort to be friendly. Who knows, the people will be friendly back, right? Wrong. I did make an actual effort. I went up to talk to two people whom I've said Hi and Bye to on Saturdays. They more or less ignored me. I don't even think they can remember me. I'm starting to dislike dance practices. A lot.

Nevermind.

Oh and I thought that this was really interesting. Apparently yesterday (monday) was the worst day of the year, according to some study done. It was a mixture of it being a monday (monday blues), a post-festive season, 82 days from the next public holiday, piling christmas spending bills and still no paycheck coming in.

Strangly enough, it was a pretty bad day for me too. Got slightly cranky over housing issues, couldn't concentrate much, ran out of groceries and shampoo, and just generally did not feel good about myself.

Sorry if some of my bad mood led to me saying unpleasant things though.

But the bad mood was soon dissipated after I did laundry (and my room smelled fresh and clean from the detergent). Then , a midnight surprise crashing from wenjie claire wanxian huilin and sasha. And earl grey tea with the accidental friend till wee hours of the morning. I know I know, 1130pm bedtime, but I suppose the bluest monday of the year should yield some exceptions (:

Sadly, too many people commented that I look like crap extremely tired today.

Nevertheless, silly photos :D

Ps. Just now when I was taking my bubble bath, I came up with two brilliant inventions: Waterproof ipod and waterproof books.

Cool, eh?

its not the place, but the company that matters

This was how it all started.

"What are we going to do if you come over though?"
"Sit and bitch."
"Oh, in that case. Okay."

Haha. And that was how Kelvin ended up coming down from London to visit pretty little Warwick today. We started our little excursion bright and early (okay, brighter and earlier for him since he had to drive all the way here), and went for Time for Tea to catch the first, warm and fresh scones.

Took him to the nice scenic route for the both of us to do our photo-whorage thing. This is the first time I spent so long at the scenic route (normally I'm only there enroute to Time for Tea, this is the first time I'm going there properly), and we went close up to the lake to take nicer, prettier photos.

Photos like this one. Yes, I always do my sunlight shot even though my camera can't capture the ball of fire as well as Kelvin's camera can.

To quote Kelvin, there's something poetic about the bench.

Another sunlight shot, I like how the sunlight is a shape of a star.

My unknowing model (oh, I should have capture your size 8 feet)

Another sunlight shot, but duller this time.

Some kids scared the birds and they all started flapping away. We thought it made for such a good shot, that when the birds finally settled down, Kelvin tried to egg them on again.

As you can see, I really like taking pictures of the sunlight. Haha.

Something poetic about the bench again (:

Silly shot.

I wanted to focus on the bench but I think there's so much detail in the photo that it's overlooked, isn't it?

ANOTHER sunlight shot

disturbed birds again (:

We drove down to Warwick Town after that, full of excitment thinking that it was going to be a quaint and pretty little place (after all, the website looked promising). Sadly, it was a dead town because every shop was closed (on a Sunday). In the end, we amused ourselves by taking pictures of all the "CLOSED" signs in the shops.

Got some really nice photos from there though. I like the road name of this one: THE BUTTS.

And this is my favourite photo of the day. If you look carefully, I took a photo of the window pane. So you can see images of what's beyond the window, as well as reflections off the pane.

We finally decided to drive to Leamington Spa because Warwick Town had nothing to offer. Leamington was nice (as usual) but we ended up eating and talking the time away instead. Yes yes, sit and bitch had to come into the day somehow :D

Came back to my room, drank tea and did childish, evil things which shall not be mentioned to maintain our nice images. Hoho, but it was a bundle of laughs and I had a lot of fun. But no, I am still not a youtube convert :D

Had a good time today. Thank you Kelvin for driving all the way to Warwick. Let's do something exciting next time.

quickie

was in a really cranky mood just now. dance rehearsals were not very fun. came back during the break and couldn't do my laundry because it started raining and the winds were howling. decided to skip the second part of dance rehearsal because im horrible like that.

tried to get out of the cranky mood by taking a hot shower and lighting my vanilla candle. it worked. even better, chloe sent me the online version of twilight (the book), so i am happily reading. i think it's the plot that holds the reader because the style of writing is a tad too abrupt for a book. more for short stories if you ask me. or personal journal entries.

ten pm now and i am surprisingly very sleepy and tired. didn't do a single piece of work/reading this weekend. i will hate myself on monday morning. no wait, i already do. kelvin's coming tomorrow and we are going exploring nice places around. exciting stuff.

i hope i wake up on time. ha ha ha. ok this wasnt as quick as i thought. night.

toasting mashmallows

I'm terribly sleepy. I've been awake early to skype my parents but they're not online yet. My body's aching from dance. There's readings and laundry to do before my weekend gets busy. But I'm too grumpy and sleepy to do anything. Gah. I'm in a terrible mood.

Okay rant over. Ended up at Chloe and Michelle's room last night because I decided not to go to Electric City and didn't want to rot away in my room. The original plan was to watch Bride Wars, which is all pink and fluffy and bimbotic :D But the streaming took forever so we watched Twillight instead.

And well, we did stupid things like toast mashmallows on a lighter, then a candle. HAHAHA. We are crazy.

Anyway, what with all the streaming problems and megevideo's limit, I have now watched half of both Twillight and Bridewars. I now understand why every girl keeps swooning over Edward Cullen. He's not that good-looking, but the things he do in the movie are swoon-worthy all right. Rushing to Bella's side and stopping the car from killing her, turning up in his car when she was in danger from those guys at night, flying her to the tops of trees where the view is beautiful. I was smiling as I watched the show (: Who cares if he is ghostly white and has such strange eyebrows?

Walked home in the rain (vampires love rainy weather) after watching half the movie and half-expected to meet a vampire on the way (I have a vivid imagination like that, this is why I don't watch horror movies). Sadly, no edward cullen appeared. DANG.

Okay enough of reel life. I just received a letter from Aneesa! Haha that put me out of my terrible mood. I love the letter pad girl! Thank you thank you, now I'm inspired to shop for pretty letterpads.

Oh one annoying thing though. Law society screwed up some of our hoodie orders. So I wasted an hour of my time yesterday queueing for hoodies for nothing. And now I have zero hoodie. I'm actually really regretting not getting the Streetvibe one. It looks cool. OH WELL.

I have to go off for dance rehearsals now! This was an extremely ranty post, sorry!

impulsiveness is good for the soul

Had an impulsive breakfast at the library cafe, then dragged myself to our boring property lecture, even though my brain was screaming at me not to do so (who really wants to listen to quotes from dead philosophers that don't make a lot of sense anyway?). But still, I dragged myself there. There's a reason why I made my resolutions (:

But guess what? There was a fire alarm in the Chemistry block so everyone was stuck outside and cannot go in. It was quite annoying waiting in the cold at first, then Jerrick and I got excited when we saw (not one, but two!) fire engines and started camwhoring like little children seeing a fire engine for the first time (:

Since lecture was cancelled, we went for a little impulsive trip to Time for Tea. As usual, the scenic walk there was amazing.

I love swings, don't you?

A scone, a crumpet, half a bagel and five pots of tea later, I came home to a lovely card in the mail. Thank you winston sohyingliang for the very funny and nicely decorated card. Hahaha, the contents of it cracked me up like crazy. Your chinese is as good as ever (just like mine)! :D

Mmm don't these look like stamps? (:

Had a terrible headache in the afternoon, coupled with a queasy stomach (no doubt, too much tea) and a strange feeling at the back of my throat. But I was glad I made the decision to go for dance nevertheless. Dance was good. I sweated all the discomfort out and am back to feeling healthy and normal. Except for the many bruises on my knees, but hey. This is so reminscent of dance times (:

Oh. And the latest Gossip Girl episode was woahh. I like.

flabbergasted

I guess last night was quite a dramatic night. We had (for lack of a better word) a fall-out. And the plan was to cut off all contact for the next two weeks.

In a complete turn of events though, I received quite a shocking visitor today. Nevertheless, I pride myself on staying calm and composed and not having my jaw wide open when I saw the visitor.

If you don't know what's going on, it's okay. You shouldn't. I'm just being annoying and cryptic.

Happy, carefree things of the day though! I received a letter from my dear tseruey (which explains the photo above of both our erm, feet. Haha if you look closely, you can see the raindrops on our ballooning fashionable nj skirts. Thank you for the letter, dear (:

Following last night's extremely sinful bubble tea, chocolate sauce and ice-cream with the accidental friend, I ended up at the gym with simran today, then a 40-lap swim. I cannot hit 60 because my arms were aching after the gym workout. But it was all very fun (:

Even more fun was Legal Theory seminar, where we had a really interesting debate. I wanted to do an entire blogpost on it originally, but I've tons of Criminal Law homework to do so I shall just leave you with a brief summary:

The case is about how five men were stuck underground in a cave. The rescue team took thirty-two days to rescue them, and ten of the rescuemen were killed in the attempt. The five men only had scant provisions and realised that they will all die without food after radioing the rescue team (to find out how many days the rescue would take) and the doctors (to ask how long they can survive without food. The men then decided to consume the flesh of one of their number, and used a dice to determine which of them should be eaten.

After the remaining four men were rescued, they were charged with murder. And if the conviction succeeds, they will all be hanged.

It felt rather horrific to read a case like this. Even worse, when we were given five judgements to read, and then decide with whom we agreed. Up till now, I don't know what to think. Are the four men guilty of murder? By statue law, yes they are. Yet, does it not seem fair? After all, they sacrificed one life to save four. And to convict them to murder would condemn them to death, which would have made the entire rescue team operation, and the loss of ten lives in the rescue team, a complete farce.

Most of the judges said that the law is law. We must follow the statues and convict them of murder. But what message are we sending out to people then? That should such a case happen again, all five of them should just die? Isn't the law set to reflect the morals of the society, and not a separate entity altogether?

I don't know. I find myself hardpressed to make a judgement here. It's not easy to reconcile the two. Me, as a person with my beliefs on what is fair, versus me as a law student.

My seminar mate put it very aptly when she told me at the end of class: "Times like this, I really hate myself. I feel like dying. I can't make a judgement like that, I can't. Why in the world am I taking Law?"

say goodbye - Chris Brown

I wore my new sneakers to school today. It's our first seminar of the year, so I thought I should celebrate by wearing my new sneakers.

I felt like about 10 years old wearing them (they were bright and shiny and new) but, I like it.

Belatedly, I realised I should have kept the shoes for Chinese New Year. Since I have no new clothes, new shoes should do just as well. But I've worn them already. Hmmm.

And this is a photo of the coat I mentioned in the last post. Realised that I didn't post a photo of it up to show you, so I snapped a quick shot after class just now. Not the most flattering of photos (my room looks strangely yellow), but as long as you can see the coat nice and clear (: It's checkered, which gives off Scottish vibes (Glam Twin Chang will be proud).

Nothing much to update, except that dance was extremely challenging (but fun) again. I like Tuesday dances. I think it makes all of us endeavour to do different things beyond what we think we can.

My legal theory seminar work is making me ponder really deeply about moral issues versus legal ones. The lines get blurred, easily. It's a really interesting case actually, maybe I'll post up a snippet of it when I'm done later.

And finally, Kelvin has made me realised that sometimes, songs can convey our emotions so much more aptly than we can.

london: the last bits and pieces

I'm feeling slightly cranky, and since I did nothing interesting today, I shall finish up all the London updates in one post (honestly, I forgot most of what happened, I just want to post photos, haha).

First of all, my rather valiant attempts at food photography.

We had strawberries with sugar and cream during one of the days in London I think

Nachos from this restaurant called Giraffe on one of the nights

And on my last night there, prawn mee from Hare and Tortoise!

It was so good, it deserves a second picture

Okay, enough of making you (and me) drool. I think I haven't blogged about the day we went to Platform Nine-and-Three-Quarters at King's Cross. Haha, yes you Potter fans out there. See the pictures below and be envious.

Before we went King's Cross though, Wenjie, Shengjun and I brought Mallika (who was transiting in London) for some good yum cha in Chinatown. We ate at this place called Joy Lau King. The food was pretty good, but alas no photos because sheng hates people who take photos of food.

The food was so delicious that we ended up staying a bit too long, which led to Mallika and I rushing down to King's Cross to catch her train while the two boys rushed home to get her luggage and ran all the way to King's Cross again. Amazingly, they reached barely three minutes after us. Woah. This incident, coupled with them not missing the megabus to London, has led me to suspect that they are actually secret superhumans.

At the train station, we decided to act silly and run after the train, waving and blowing kisses at Mallika. Poor girl, what must the people sitting beside her think? Haha but it was fun. Felt so harrypotterish (:

Then we felt ever MORE harrypotterish :D

PLATFORM NINE AND THREE QUARTERS (the trolley has disappeared halfway!)

Wenjie and I, on our way to Hogwarts Express. Ta!

Oops couldn't get in. Hmm, I wonder why.

Ponders if we got the wrong platform

I think shengjun got bored being our photographer, so he started snapping photos of himself. I like this shot, because he looks like he has got a gigantic dimple!

The two boys wondering why they can't get in too!

Haha we wasted quite a bit of time at the Platform camwhoring and watching other people take photos. But it's okay, it was quite enjoyable. Ended up walking around Oxford Street (I think) after that because I was upset that I didn't buy anything on Boxing Day. Good thing we walked around too, because I got a pretty red coat from Zara. Ok, so it was a rather impulsive buy (the two boys just said it was nice and it was 80% wool) but I don't regret it. Keeps me warm and looks unique. Worth my forty pounds (:

BUT. Many many people have said I look like Little Red Riding Hood though. Now all I need is a basket and I'm set for costume parties. Ha ha.

Okay I don't actually remember anything else from London. This is it, then! It was a fun trip overall. Good food, especially :D I actually went yum cha twice, Four Seasons twice and Cha Cha Moon twice (Misato doesn't count since I didn't eat the second time)! But for now, it's back to Warwick, back to school and back to brocollis, bittergourds and celery sticks. Yum (:

london: bits and pieces

So this was one of the days in London which I didn't manage to blog about on the night itself. It's mostly a photo post, because I can't really recall all the details. Nevertheless, enjoy (:

Met up with Kelvin to take a day trip to Windsor. It's this place at the edge of London, and it took us about an hour's drive to get there. But it was worth it. The scenery was extremely lovely, despite the cold.

Pretty swans on River Thames

The streets of Windsor. I really like this picture a lot, I don't know why.

Another streets of Windsor picture. I like how the road curves.

We set off early so that we could go there for a nice proper English breakfast in a quaint little place. It took us considerable effort to find this place, but I'm glad we did. We had breakfast in The Crooked House of Windsor, which brought an entire new meaning to the word "quaint". And as the name suggests, the house really is crooked.

Kelvin's full English breakfast

My smoked salmon and eggs

After breakfast, we set off to the famous Windsor Castle, which is one of the Queen's official residences. The inside of the castle was pretty amazing, but the most intriguing gallery was the one with the pictures of Royalty from a long time ago to present. Oh yes, I gawked at Prince William's photos for you, Tseruey (:

Windsor Castle

The castle against the glaring sun

This shot was taken from the castle itself. I like how it looks like a very detailed painting, rather than a photograph.

The castle again

Next, you're going to see a barrage of skyline photos because I can't really decide (oh unartsy me) which ones are nice. Or if all are complete rubbish.

I'm trying to bring out the pattern of the sky

Against the glaring sun again

And again

And well, I like the aeroplane in this shot. I started waiting specifically for planes to go past before snapping

Plane and sunlight, together

Enough of sky pictures. I like this next shot very, very much.

My usual favourite, which way to go?

On the way to Eton College

We were just about aimlessly to take in the scenery, and here is kelvin, the unknowing model

Sunset. I really like this shot too

And finally this, simply reminds me of another world out there. It looks mystical, like one of those enid blyton stories

Enjoyed myself a lot that day. We drove back to London to Bugis Street at Millenium Gloucester Hotel for some authentic Singaporean food. Good food, with good company who influenced me to be impulsive and happy. Thank you kelvin, but I wish it were that easy.

midnight surprise

At midnight last night, I got a surprise visitor at my doorstep bearing a surprisingly heavy surprise parcel.

Needless to say, it was quite a surprise.

Resolution number 4 is going down the drain.

on this brainless saturday

I honestly shouldn't be given too much time on my hands. Because I somehow always end up feeling restless and have the urge to revamp my blog. Which was happened today and voila! You now have a revamped samanthaeng.blogspot in front of you.

Tell me, when will I ever feel restless and get the urge to do my readings?

Anyway, about the revamp! Thought it was a good way to welcome the new year and usher in my blog's first birthday. It's back to a girly pink blog for now, and well, you can see the changes for yourself.

I really like my banner up there. You must be wondering why I decided to name this blog Curiosity killed the Cat. No particular reason, except that I've always liked this little catchphrase. Take it as a warning if you wish, you nosy souls! But I like the catchphrase after this one even better: But satisfaction brought it back. Meow.

Well, that's about it really. Comments are welcome. Love it, hate it, you can't go to my blog in a public area without looking completely gay anymore... Haha, I never said I was a nice person.

Updates-wise, remember how I complained about the cold last night? Went over to the accidental friend's place after that and saw a frozen pond on the way there. I had great fun trying to poke through it with a stick. But I can't help but pity the poor ducks who have waddle on ice now? Urgh. That must be really cold.

Watched An American in Paris (complete with popcorn, ice-cream and wine) and Gene Kelly is awesome. He's a really really good dancer. Plus it honestly didn't hurt that he was so good-looking and has such a hot fit body. Haha I'm inspired! I want to learn tap dance!

Reached home past four am in the morning, which really isn't smart if I want to keep to the "wake up early refreshed to do work" resolution. Woke up late, played with my blog design and before long it was time for dance rehearsals and following that, tescos with the chloe and michelle.

Dance was okay. Thank you simran for the card to the sports centre. Grocery shopping was not as exciting as Sainsburys last night. And carrying a five kilo bag of rice plus all the groceries and a big bottle of oyster sauce is no joke. I need to start doing push-ups.

Or just bring a backpack next time.

random

So it probably wasn't the best night to go hopping around coventry trying to find our future potential house. I mean, the strange eerie mist aside, BBC weather has just happily told me that it is currently negative four degrees. Pfft. This sort of weather is more for staying in and snuggling in a nice warm duvet with your vanilla candle lit and a lovely cup of tea by your bedside. yum.

But okay, whatever. We're a cool and funky house of people, and therefore we do exciting and adventurous things like venture out in the cold mist at night to find our house. Alas, the owners were not in so it was a wasted trip.... not. We ended up having a whale of a time shopping at Sainsbury (to non-uk readers, it is a huge supermarket, slightly higher-class than Tesco). Yes, it has come to the stage where supermarketing is a big outing to be excited about. And it sure was exciting. I now have iced tea, 100 packets of earl grey tea (insane, i know), orange and mango juice, fox sweets, ham and some stuffed pasta thing :D

Oh and we are STILL going to Tesco and Fresh Asia tomorrow. I can't believe grocery shopping is appearing on my calendar as most happening events of the week.

Haha I know I said at the beginning of the post that it is very stupid to be out tonight. But I'm off. Ta.

the story of us

so this was the poem theBOY wrote for me just before I left for warwick. he wanted me to post it up, but i never got around to it. i've added the pictures (at his request) to make everything more interesting. haha. click on the picture to see it if you wish.

and yes, i'm doing random things like these to take my mind off the dismal property test. i'm not angry that i did badly (because apparently i did "pretty well" relatively and according to the lecturer's standards). i'm just upset because the negative marking system really doesn't seem fair (how can you be judged over a 100% this way?) and that not getting at least 75% on this test (which is ridiculous and unattainable) means you can never get a first overall. because you see, law lecturers apparently give the best essays a borderline first. so, mathematically, it's not gonna work out unless you get a first for this too.

also. the lecturers need to get their thinking straight. one said i quote "when equity and common law are in conflict, equity always wins". the other lecturer in today's test rejected the answer that "equity defeats the law" and said that " equity follows the law". tell me how is that not annoying.

ok rant over. dance was good. blew off some steam. was happy to see you even if it was for a couple of minutes. thank you.

and thank you claire for coming over in the afternoon and listening to me rant. and yes, thank you for the ladybug peg (:

new year term resolutions

This is a bit late, but whatever. It's the thought that counts. Here goes:

1) Sleep by 1130pm every school night (slightly difficult, considering the extremely late hours I always keep)

2) Wake up early and refreshed to do work!

3) Eat breakfast (mmhmmm. this is a very hard habit to break. but if I succeed in number 2, this should come easy)

4) Stop eating junk (should be easy if I was in Singapore with my junkless, foodless kitchen. but i am in the uk. bah)

5) Eat my vitamins daily

6) Immerse myself into dance (go for the numerous practices and rehearsals!)

7) Go swimming at least once a week

8) ATTEND ALL LECTURES AND SEMINARS (no more ponstar stunts)

9) Study hard

10) I mean, really study hard. Do all the readings and the seminar work (as opposed to term one where I didn't do my readings nor homework)

11) Try to do the holiday assessed essays during term time (so that holidays are free for revision for exams)

12) Pay attention in lectures and seminars

13) Save money

14) Be happy

hello we are freeee

Got slightly frustrated in the afternoon, over housing issues and several other small minor issues. Looks like we don't have a house yet. This is very worrying. Gah. But whatever, we are a cool and funky bunch of people. We will find a cool and funky house. It just takes.. time.

Was cheered up by a couple of things. Gossip Girl (with the lights off and my vanilla candle burning, ooh nice) never fails to brighten up my mood (or make me feel like my life's problems are insignificant compared to theirs). Then the accidental friend came over and we played with the silly sound producer thing on his macbook. What's it called? I don't know but it was quite hilarious. You get to hear all the TYPICAL sounds you hear on ads all the time. Funny :D

Anyway the rest of the day was good too. Had the (much dreaded) property law exam in the morning. It was quite mind boggling and, lacking a better word, extremely whoaaaa. Like a whirlwind of forty minutes. But I felt so liberated when it was over :D While everyone rushed off to rush out their essays I happily went for a swim at the sports centre because I had the rest of the day free. Silly me forgot my goggles and oh my goodness, swimming with your head constantly above the water is so tiring and so difficult on the arms.

But I like the aching feeling. From dance yesterday and swimming today and we have dance tomorrow again! Sadly though, the aches are only on the arms. Whatever happened to aching legs from too much dance and stretching!

Lunched with the BFF at the Arts Centre after my swim. We had a good time (three hours!) catching up on gossips and thinking of what a blast we would have as housemates next year (essentially, we decided on our mugging friends, clubbing friends, crazy friends, and gossip girl friends within the house). Oh boy. Much as I would miss Whitefields like crazy, next year sounds promising too (:

The BFF posing with my pink camera case hahaha oh ian! Pink indeed!

Okay. I have nothing much left to say (this is an extremely ranty/ramble post but my brain isn't functioning) except that this is my third non-meat-eating day and it feels just like the beginning of term one except I have muliti-vitamins now so hooray :D Also, I have a lot of things I need to buy from Asiamart/Tescos:

1) Rice
2) Oyster Sauce
3) Plain egg noodles
4) Tom yum instant mee

5) More vegatables (I finished them really quickly)
6) Tuna fillers

CANNON PARK SOON PLEASE.

okay night.

minus four degrees

The printer is currently working very hard and chugging away twenty one pages of my colourful font-size nine notes which I will have to memorise tonight. Yes, for tomorrow's 10 am test exam (I am constantly reminded it is an exam because it counts for 30% by my fellow law mates). It does sound rather superhuman but I shall try my best. After all, I came from NJC. I am sure that there is a mugger deep within me... if I look hard enough.

This is what the stress levels did to me at one am last night. Now, don't you laugh. But I have very weird habits when I get stressed. First, I brush my teeth many times repeatedly and very hard (once my gums started bleeding because I brushed too much). Then when I was back in Singapore (and my parents will know this one, because unlike brushing of teeth, it is not done in the privacy of the bathroom), I start tying my hair into plaits. Me thinks it stems from this childhood deprivation where 1) I didn't know how to tie plaits and 2) My mum never bothered doing it for me. I finally discovered the "how-to" when I was in upper secondary. By then it was too old to walk around in plaits, but nevertheless, that doesn't mean I can't do so at home- when I'm stressed, need a short break and something to do with my hands.

So this was what happened at one am last night. Sigh.

Coincidentally, we learnt in Tort Lecture today that one can sue his/her employer for unreasonable stress levels leading to psychiatric breakdowns. I wonder if I can sue the school (oh for giving us negative counting in an mcq exam that scares me silly because I really enjoy guesswork) for causing me stress. Haha. Okay I'm nuts. Ignore this entire paragraph.

Oh school's been alright so far. No seminars for the week, and there has only been two lectures. The legal theory lecturer was my tort tutor last term. Nice to see him and his funny ways/voice again. I couldn't help but smile. Our tort lecturer is the interesting one again. Oh good good.

And for the past two mornings, we've been waking up to a blanket of white snow on the ground. Which for all it's prettiness means that it is now getting extremely cold. Negative four degrees this morning was almost unbearable. I even wore (oh this is an unglam confession!) thermals under my jeans! Yes granny-looking, completely unsexy and unglamorous thermals but I still froze. Spring come quick, otherwise I will be wasting a lot of time taking scalding hot baths every time I feel cold.

Have I mentioned? I've been going semi-vegetarian suddenly because I am so sick of eating out/eating good food for the past two weeks especially in London. Haha suddenly my simple meals of brocolli tomatoes and mushrooms are so welcoming. Plain and simple does it, really (:

Alright this turned out to be a much longer post then expected. Forgot to mention that I turn horribly longwinded when stressed too. Bear with me, till 11am tomorrow. Then it will be fun and laughter and yes, Gossip Girl is back on :D I'm headed to Dance now. It's a new teacher. Hopefully she's good. Oh and dance is now three times a week plus a million rehearsals on Saturdays (so that makes it four) and I am actually rather looking forward to immersing myself in dance and practices again. I miss performing. I hope we get lovely new dances.

Ta.

and you can be my pretty snowflake

I must have hit the "backspace" button on my keyboard about ten times trying to construct this first sentence. Funny how the words just aren't coming to me. It must be the massive pile of property law notes surrounding me, screaming at me to look at them instead of blog. Oh shush for a bit. I'll be back to you guys in a while.

I had a really good day today. Spent the day at Coventry with the accidental friend. It was quite lovely, how we walked out of my house and it started snowing. Little, tiny flurries of snowflakes that looked so pretty. The flakes were too small to be captured on camera, but we could see them clinging onto our coats and watch them falling silently outside the bus window.

And yes, "it's snowing, really!" (:

The day just got better. A delicious lunch at, yes you've guessed it, noodle bar. We had noodles and a long of siew mai each. Haha that was certainly lovely (: Conversation was easy, the cameraderie was still there. It was as if a month of holidays didn't just go by. We were so engrossed in our conversation that we didn't realise time sprinted past. Shops were all closing as we rushed around trying to buy a pair of gloves. Oh and I got my favourite M&S jam biscuits (:

Had our toffeenut drinks at Starbucks, as promised months ago. We sat at the booth to people-watch, but ending up talking until we were the last ones to leave the place. At the bus-stop, we attempted to dance our Summer Nights mass dance. How silly, but how funny and reminiscent of old days.

Pengkun dropped by when I got back home. Again, we ended up chatting until she missed her basketball slot. It feels good to see everyone again.

Welcome back, my lovely noisy vibrant Warwick.

rolling out the red carpet

Today was a good day, but I'm surprisingly in a slightly cranky mood. I think I'm thinking too much. There are too many thoughts swirling like mashmallows in my head.

Speaking of mashmallows, I'm drinking milo with them currently, as I gear myself up for a night of studying. Yes, it is past one in the morning now. But I really need to finish up my revision if I'm going to head out to Coventry tomorrow so- a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.

Anyway, happy things of the day! Woke up to a lovely phonecall from Tseruey in Singapore. Followed by Tescos trip with Jerrick and Joyce (I've missed my sandwich fillers!). Came home to a Christmas card from ching (thank you ching! I love the merlion!) and a package which I can't collect till monday. Had lunch, then Chloe and Michelle appeared! :D It was such a lovely surprise and we just sat in my room and devoured chocolates and giggled and laughed and caught up with everything over the holidays. Good times (:

The two girls came over for dinner as well because of their dismal lack of groceries! Had fun at dinner, had fun gossiping in my room afterwards and claire, wenjie and yonglong popped by to my room as well. Whee. I'm so glad everyone is back. More, more, more good times ahead!

Okay that was basically the day. I know I still owe you all some blog posts from London, but that shall be another day. For now, let me sink into my post-holiday, pre-schoolreopening, spent-too-much-money-over-the-past-weeks, test-is-coming-and-i-haven't-studied mood. Feeling cranky again. Somebody save me.

Toffeenut tomorrow :D

you just got to be there

You know what they say. Some things, you just got to be there. Words can't describe it. The pen may be mightier than the sword. But presence, I say, beats everything.

I am glad to be home.

Yes home, because whitefields has become my comfortable home away from home for quite some time now. I was grinning away when I entered my pink and clean (albeit stuffy smelling) room this afternoon; Grinned, as I heard the usual sounds of two housemates complaining about the stench in the fridge; Smiled to myself when I cooked my first meal again after so many days of eating out; Laughed, when I realised that the shower at Whitefields is still ever dependent and scalding hot (lovely when it's zero degrees outside). And now, I'm simply feeling contented. I've lighted my vanilla candle; the room is dark except for the lamp light and the candlelight; my room smells delicious; and I'm just marvelling at the beauty of being back where I belong.

Like I said, you just got to be there. Or in this case, here, to understand exactly what I'm talking about.

Anyway, welcome to twentyohnine (:

I've decided to stop the day-by-day entries about London and fast forward to new year's eve. Partly, I couldn't keep track of the day numerals anymore (All I know is that today I left London and it is the 11th day). And also, it just feels right to blog about the new year first, before going on to the past days of windsor (prince williams, tseruey!), running after trains, various yumcha sessions and oh, platform nine-and-three-quarters (:

I don't know what it is about the new year that we all love. Is it the feeling of starting anew? Like how we love writing on the first page of a new notebook, and print out our names oh so carefully on it. Or the feeling of making resolutions, to make the new year an even better one. Or is it just a simple superficial theory, that we all love new things. A new coat, a new bag, a new pair of shoes. We love them, and so we'll love a new year too.

I don't have the answer. But reading through my past year's new year reflections (here) made me smile. Laugh even, as this particular phrase did:

"I remember exactly a year ago, I was sitting here, at the exact same spot,
rushing through my 2006 reflections.A year on, here I am again.
Some things never change;"

Well, some things do change, as you will see very soon.

New year's eve started out with a yumcha session in the afternoon at Superstar in Chinatown. The three of us decided that we ought to celebrate the last day of the year properly, so it was pamper thyself day.

Which explains the truckloads of food glorious food we ordered :D (have I mention how much i adore siew mai?)
the two people who are a cut above the rest hahaha. (if you look carefully, I was wearing snowflakes earrings and yes, I must have gotten my days mixed up in this festive season)
whenjee (:
We headed down to Fortnum and Mason after lunch to ogle at extremely expensive things that we can never afford in a million years but it was fun. Sheng and I were slightly hyper, running around and giggling at everything while putting all sorts of scents, lotions and perfumes on our hands that they ended up stinking. And oh the things we did to cheer wj up! Tattoos on mannequins indeed!

These were the display outside Fortnum and Mason. A lot of people were taking pictures...

so I decided to follow the herd and do the same (: Pretty?

And just in case you don't believe how expensive Fortnum and Mason can be, just take a look at this! A thousand pounds for a box of six christmas crackers!

Well, I guess normal people can't really afford it. Only those who are a cut above the rest(hahaha sj!) Okay if you look closely, I added in "the rest". But still...

GOSSIP GIRL :D

Walked around randomly afterwards (by then I was tired and in a bad mood while wj was all smiley again. Oh yes, we all take our turns) and took random pictures like this one:

Somehow or the other, we ended up at Macdonald's mixing vodka into coke and fanta. Yes, Macdonalds of all places! I can just imagine someone asking me what I did over New Year's Eve and me replying gaily: Oh I had a couple of drinks at Macdonalds! You?
Well it wasn't all too bad. Look at our glamorous plastic cups and straws :D
And glamorous expressions (I love that look, wj!)
With drinks warming up our tummy and after collecting our various guests for the nye dinner, we headed to Four Seasons (yes the famous place for duck!), and look at the humongous crowd/queue outside!

But luckily for us, we were smart and made reservations before hand. So in we went to really scrumptious food like this. Swoon-worthy, I tell you. I don't actually eat duck, but I am now a duck-convert :D Mmmmmm. But only Four Seasons duck. Haha.
And this was the entire party of people who came for the nye dinner. There were more groups of friends who wanted to join in, but nine was a huge enough group already so we left it as that. And it was a really fun group of chatty, funny, sociable people! (: From left to right: cm, sheng, wenjie, dave, jason, myself, mallika, josh, derrick.

After dinner, Malikka and Josh left us while the rest of us walked on to get a spot to view the fireworks. Now this is where the night starts getting interesting (and wildly different from past nyes where I sit at home and reflect about the past year).

But first, on the way to the bridge (to view fireworks), we kept seeing policemen on horses. I couldn't resist patting one and taking a photo (:
Just like how we all couldn't resist taking photos with the illuminating policemen. Haha!
The massive crowd of people, so much so that ALL the entrances to the riverside were closed and we had to walk really far and scheme of ways and places to watch the fireworks from.
The camwhores (:

The hilarious things they do in London (the paint was real, unlike the tube station sitting on laps sign)

Okay. This is where the night got really interesting. Also, where my account of the night may be garbled and mostly from secondary sources. Apparently, Jason Dave Wj Sheng and I started playing a silly drinking game. It was like cai quan but with five-people and if you guessed the number correctly, you're not allowed to smile or you would have to drink. This is the type of game I'm really bad at, because I keep guessing correctly, and I can't stop smiling when I do.

I think you can guess what happened next. Apparently I got quite drunkhigh after that and kept falling backwards and doing backbends (oh my ballet teacher will be proud). I suppose this means all I saw were stars and visions of people upside down, but I don't particularly remember. The fireworks were quite beautiful.... says keith who watched it on youtube. I don't remember watching them (what a shame, we waited and walked for so long!) but I must have. Because apparently I was lifted up so I can watch the bursts of fire better and because there are fireworks pictures in my camera like this one:

Guess I really was there. I cannot believe I spent the first minutes of the new year like that but okay, it wasn't all too bad. I remembered things afterwards. I remember smiling at everyone and wishing them Happy New Year! Then there was Dave who was high as well, running around with the POLICE CONE. I remember the walk back home was really, really far. I remember running around very hyperly for short bursts at a time (100m runs all over again). I remember hugging random people. I remember being piggy-backed. I remember petulantly refusing to walk anymore and wanting to sleep on the streets. I remember grinning away for no reason.

What I don't remember is how I came to sport this huge bruise on my right knee now. It's quite gross, all blue and purple and pink rolled into one big three-fifty-cent-coin size of a bruise. I feel like getting a tee-shirt that says: I went to watch the London NYE fireworks and all I got was this lousy bruise.

Anyway I have found the source of the bruise!

Lindt #111 says:
i don't remember you having a great fall

Lindt #111 says:
OHHHHHHHHHHH

Lindt #111 says:
it's on the right knee right?

Lindt #111 says:
you walked into some pole sticking out from the narrow pavement when we were walking towards victoria

samantha says:
I DID???

Lindt #111 says:
yes yes yes yes

Lindt #111 says:
i remember now

samantha says:
i dont!

Lindt #111 says:
we were walking towards victoria

Lindt #111 says:
then the footpath was narrow

Lindt #111 says:
cos there was construction

Lindt #111 says:
and there was human traffic coming from the other direction

Lindt #111 says:
this thing stuck out from the ground in the middle

Lindt #111 says:
walkwalkwalk bonk*

Lindt #111 says:
you went oww

samantha says:
hmmmmmmmm!

hahaha. I like how he says "walkwalkwalk bonk*". Sigh, what a way to start the year! But maybe it's a good sign. Start happy and hyper, will be happy throughout the year (: Anyway, thank you all who made nye quite an exciting night (: And here I would like to add that I spent New year's day being all good and studious so hopefully that made up for the night before in terms of karma points :D

Oh one last thing. When I said I wanted to bring in 2009 with a bang, I really meant the fireworks. Not, walkwalkwalk bonk*.

But oh well, whatever works. Haha, goodnight :D
